Positioning Absa as a leader on climate and finance at COP28

The situation

We helped Absa shape, design and deliver a series of high-impact convenings and communications in the lead-up to and during COP28 — reinforcing its role as a regional leader in sustainable finance. 
As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Absa sought to elevate its voice on climate and finance ahead of COP28. We supported the bank across multiple touchpoints: from convening design and facilitation to editorial and communications materials that aligned with its brand and vision. Our work helped Absa engage key audiences — from policymakers to investors — and present a unified message across platforms. 

Our role

COP28 presented a critical platform for Absa to signal its leadership on climate and finance in Africa. The bank aimed to host a series of meaningful conversations in the lead-up to, and during, the summit — but needed support in shaping the content, designing a consistent communications approach, and ensuring smooth delivery across formats and events.

The solution

We provided end-to-end support for Absa’s COP28 convenings and sustainability communications, including: 

  • Designing and delivering convenings on the ground in Dubai.
  • Developing content briefs on key themes, such as sustainable finance and agriculture.
  • Recruiting and preparing moderators and speakers. 
  • Creating thought leadership, op-eds and social media content for strategic amplification. 
  • Providing on-the-ground support during COP28 to ensure seamless execution. 

We also supported adjacent communications work, including the Human Rights Report and Sustainability Comms Playbook — shaping content and design to align with Absa’s messaging, visual identity and strategic goals. 

Our impact

The convenings helped position Absa as a proactive voice in Africa’s climate finance conversation. The supporting editorial and design work reinforced its credibility and values across channels — from formal reports to stakeholder communications. The feedback from Absa was overwhelmingly positive, with specific praise for clarity of messaging, quality of execution and alignment with brand and strategy.
